This is our local small village where you can find a well-equipped grocery shop, as well as the well established family run local bar, centre of the social life of the village, which makes amazing pizzas and gelato.
Castiglione del Lago (literally “castle of the Lake”) is a medieval town built on a peninsula of the Trasimeno Lake, from which you can enjoy an amazing 360° view of the area.Its Castle is open to the public and it offers throughout the summer months, a busy and varied program of music concerts, folk festivals and open air cinema. The Duca della Corgna palace has wonderful frescoes and you should not miss the walk on the castle’s fortifications. From Castiglione del Lago, the Trasimeno Cycling track starts around the lake and ferry boats take off to the islands.The town has many food boutique and restaurants, recommended are “La Cantina” and “Aacquario”. During the summer, there is a street market every Wednesday morning.
the medieval hilly villages of Paciano & Panicale, from which you can enjoy a stunning view of the lake.Not to be missed in Panicale is a visit to the Caporali theater, the church of San Sebastiano, the collegiate church of Sanmicheli. We also recommend the excellent pizza at the Oca Bruciata restaurant
An ancient medieval city, it houses in a sacristy the masterpiece by Perugino: The adoration of the Magi. As well as its beauty, this place is famous for the quality saffron production, as well as amazing traditional cheeses, meats and vegetables, which you can find especially at the Saturdays market within the town walls.
is an enchanting medieval village, near the lake of Pietrafitta and the paleontological museum; it houses the beautiful and not to be missed glass museum!
Near Magione do not miss Monte del Lago, a charming village overlooking the lake; Agello and its medieval castle; San Feliciano ancient fishing village with the fishing museum and the excellent restaurant ‘Rosso di Sera’.
Accessible by a ferry service across the major cities around the Lake, including from Castiglione del Lago
ISOLA POLVESE : located in the southern part of the lake, it preserves numerous monuments, the Medieval Castle, the Church of San Giuliano with its frescoes and the ancient Olivetan monastery.
ISOLA MAGGIORE: located in the northern part of the lake, it has a picturesque and ancient fishing village, Baths and Museums, the Castle and the Roman remains. In this place, San Francesco (Saint Francis) spent the 40 days of Lent in 1211.
In the nearby Tuscany, you will find the most renowned natural thermal baths in central Italy: San Casciano, Bagni San Filippo, Bagno Vignoni. Some of them are free, some you will need to pay an entry ticket.
In Chiusi and Sarteano you can visit Etruscan tombs and museums that will tell you the history of this part of Italy before the Romans
There are several kilometres of bike friendly tracks in the area, offering fabulous naturalistic views. The difficulty is medium, in terms of length and pendency, with a difference in height of only 400mt. Perfect for mountain bikes and e-bikes.
Close to us it runs from Arezzo, along Valdichiana until Cortona, Castiglione del Lago, Villastrada und further to the must go city of Orvieto. (See section in the map).
The new hiking trail around lake Trasimeno is conceived as a circle. You can hike it in 7 stages within one weeks’ time . During a weekend, you might manmage to do two stages. The hiking track “Via del Trasimeno“ measures a total of 160 km, with each stage an average of 22 Kilometers . Villastrada is located in the section between Città della Pieve and Castiglione del Lago.
